The HCG Diet is not one of the newest diet programs that have been developed to fight the seemingly never-ending battle against weight gain and being overweight in San Francisco, but it remains a very effective plan. HCG is a hormone that is normally produced by both men and women, but is especially present in significant amounts when a woman goes through pregnancy and is mainly responsible for drastically increasing her metabolism during that period. The aim of the HCG diet is to recreate this condition in non-pregnant patients to aid in shedding the unwanted pounds faster.
What happens during the course of an HCG diet?
For the HCG Diet protocol, in addition to HCG injections, patients will also be put under a very low calorie diet, or VLCD, to ensure that the fat cells in the body are not able to immediately replace what has been lost by taking in more fat from the food consumed by the patient in a normally unhealthy diet. It has been found that the combination of these actions helps promote rapid weight loss that has been known to average between one to three pounds a day. This remarkable achievement is made possible by the ability of the HCG hormone to essentially change the way that a patient perceives food, as well as their eating habits, to be able to sustain a long-term weight loss program. In the process, the body of the patient is able to release the calories that have previously been dormant, stored in the body’s fat deposits. These calories may either be utilized by the body for energy or expelled through the body’s natural metabolic processes.
What should be expected from an HCG diet program?
Depending on the patient’s requirement, the amount of HCG administered will range between 125 to 200 IU in order to set the weight loss process in motion. It recommended that the patient must, however, do this in combination with a very low calorie diet to bring about the coveted results. The calorie intake in a VLCD could potentially dip to just up to 500 calories a day, a figure that doctors recommend to basically prevent the body to take up fat as the existing fat cells are being depleted, thus resulting to more rapid weight loss.
Each treatment program will be tailor fit for each of the patients and will last as long as it is necessary for them to achieve their goal weight. Usually, there will be at least 26 days in the program, or with HCG being administered for 23. Some HCG diet programs should last for up to 43 days consisting of 40 HCG administrations. The hormone is not normally administered to the patient during the last three days of the diet program because this is about the amount of time that it takes for it to be eliminated out of the patient’s body, so that it can adjust as the patient resumes his or her normal diet activities. During the course of the diet, the HCG hormone is administered via troches (solid, chewable tablet), and patients have been known to lose up to 1 pound of weight for each day of the program. It should be noted that the HCG diet is not recommended to go beyond the 43 day limit because it has been noticed that patients develop an immunity to the effects of the hormone after 40 days of continued administration. If patients wanted to continue on with the program, a six-week resting period will be implemented before the body becomes responsive to the effects of HCG again. Doctors can only recommend a maximum number of four treatments in between breaks before the body becomes unresponsive or completely desensitized to the effects of the HCG diet.
How long should I stay aligned very low-calorie diet like HCG?
With the HCG diet program, patients are going to be asked to reduce their caloric intake drastically. However, this VLCD must only last as long as the stored fat deposits are being targeted for release. This is component of the HCG diet is essential for shedding the pounds completely during the course of the treatment. Once these fat deposits are gone, and the patients reach their desired weight, they must be removed from the diet and brought back to their normal eating habits because, at this point, the body will begin to reject the imposition of the VLCD since there is no longer any stored up fat that will sustain it.
What are the risks of going on the HCG diet?
Although the idea of losing one pound of weight a day may sound ideal to most dieters, it can also pose some risks to the patient’s health. The HCG diet must be administered with caution since it could potentially cause some side effects such as headaches, muscle cramps, constipation, restlessness, and even hair loss. Also, since this is a hormone normally produced in larger amounts during pregnancy, its use could precipitate some pregnancy-like symptoms including water retention, breast tenderness for women or breast enlargement for men, or depression.
